Somaliland: EU Ambassador to Somaliland/Somalia, Michele Cervone d’Urso arrives in Hargeisa

HARGEISA-Somaliland president H.E Ahmed Mohamed Mhamoud Silanyo on Wednesday has received EU Ambassador to Somaliland/Somalia, Michele Cervone d’Urso at the presidency accompanied by Neil Wigan UK ambassador based in Kenya.

Somaliland Foreign Minister Hon. Mohamed Bihi Yonis who spoke to the press has told that they discussed with EU on the elections and when they will be held.

He also spoke of the newly formed Electoral Commission where female members are included and the EU expressed that they are happy with that.

Mr. Bihi has added that they discussed with EU about the projects they implement in the country and the friendly ties between the two.

The president and the EU ambassador agreed that elections must take place at the right time and went on to say that the government did all it can to make sure the smooth holding of free and fair elections.

Mr. Michele Cervone d’Urso has said that the discussion with the president focused on democracy issues and that elections must be prepared.

He added that he plans to meet with political parties, media and the civil society,

He reiterated that elections to happen in Somaliland in 2015 are a must.
